Therapeutic Riding Lessons

At Pony Tales Stables, we believe everyone should have the chance to experience the joy of horse riding. Equine activities can be incredibly therapeutic, and we proudly work with individuals and groups facing a wide range of challenges, including wheelchair users, people with autism, and those with visual impairments

For visually impaired riders, the experience of touching, grooming, and feeling the movement of the horse is deeply enriching. Riders with autism often benefit from the calm connection with the horse and the clear, consistent communication from our experienced instructors and volunteers

We understand that every rider is unique, with their own needs and goals. That’s why we tailor our approach to each individual, creating a supportive and encouraging environment where everyone can thrive

We offer one-to-one riding lessons for those who need a little extra support, with each session tailored to suit the rider’s individual needs. Our experienced instructors work with both children and adults with specific challenges, and are happy to collaborate with family members or carers to develop a personalised riding programme

Group therapeutic sessions can also be arranged for schools or respite care services on request.

In 2016, we were proud runners-up in the CARA National Inclusion Awards, which celebrate organisations that promote access to sport and physical activity for people with disabilities

At Pony Tales Stables, we believe that a disability should never be a barrier to enjoying equine activities. Our aim is to create a positive, supportive environment where every rider feels empowered, encouraged, and included

Private Sessions

We offer one-to-one (or sometimes two-to-one, depending on individual needs) therapeutic riding lessons tailored to each rider. Sessions are typically 30 minutes and scheduled at a time that suits you. For some, simply being around the horse—stroking, grooming, or helping to tack up—can be just as beneficial as riding. Each rider’s needs are assessed in their first session to ensure the most effective and comfortable approach.

Group Sessions

Group lesson duration depends on the number of riders and their specific needs. We understand that attention spans and support requirements vary, so every rider has a dedicated helper while on the horse. If more one-to-one support is required, we may recommend starting with private sessions before joining a group, to ensure a positive and successful experience.

Your Visit to Pony Tales Stables – Social Story

We know that trying something new can sometimes feel a bit scary - especially if you're not sure what to expect. That’s why we’ve created a Social Story to help you or your child prepare for a visit to Pony Tales Stables.

This step-by-step guide uses simple language and images to show what happens at the stables, who you might meet, and what you might do. It’s designed especially for autistic visitors and those with additional needs, to make the experience more predictable, calm, and fun.

You can read it together before your visit, and even print it out to bring along.
